Year 3 and 4 go to Young Voices 2020
Thu 30 Jan 2020After months of build-up and rehearsals the day of the Young Voices finally came. Children in Blue Class took part at the World Resorts centre (formally the NEC) in Birmingham.
Everyone was feeling slightly nervous as they did not know what to expect but once they arrived for the afternoon’s rehearsals all those butterflies flew away and the children relaxed and enjoyed the moment. The children became part of a mass choir of over 6000 children for the evening!
It was an amazing day and the children did us proud. They had a lot to learn, but all the hard work paid off as every single child sang their heart out! They got to sing with Ruti, Tony Hadley and The Shires, but the highlight of the night was getting to watch the parents show off their moves with the dance group Urban strides!
Thank you to all the parents for allowing your child to take part and to those parents that were fortunate to go to watch and those who have helped their children learn all the songs.
Thank you also to Mrs Bryant and Mrs Coulthard for supporting the children on the day and lots of admiration from pupils and parents for your continued singing and dancing!
We are super proud of all the children that took part, and hope that will be an experience that will stay with them forever!
We can’t wait for the next one!

Our Lego team enter the annual First Lego league tournament
Thu 23 Jan 2020On Saturday 18th January, pupils from Polebrook School took part in the annual First Lego League Tournament which was held in Corby.
The theme this year was City Shaper. The children needed to design and build a Lego robot and program it to do a variety of jobs within a city landscape in order to score points. Some of the tasks required include crossing a bridge, constructing buildings and moving to different zones of the map. The children were not allowed to touch or move the robot at all during the tournament so lots of measuring and accuracy were involved in order to get the programming just right!
The children were also asked to solve an issue with a building within their community. They decided on building a second story for our school in order to grow our own food and create solar energy to make our building more eco-friendly.
The children needed to create a presentation about their project, the impact it would have on our school and the environment whilst also researching solar panels, wind turbines and green houses. Finally, the children came up with an innovative team name (Lego Busters) and logo design, which was printed on our team t-shirts that we wore on Saturday.
During these tasks, the children needed to show the Core Values of the tournament, which celebrate innovation, teamwork and professionalism.
We were so proud of how well our team did at the competition, from presenting their work to a panel of judges to competing in intense, epic robot battles against other schools.
Thank you so much to Caterpillar for sponsoring us during the tournament and for coaching the team. We cannot wait to take another team to the competition next year!

Christmas countdown at Polebrook
Fri 13 Dec 2019What a busy week it has been for all our children and staff!
Monday, our choir entertained the residents at Polebrook Nursing home and would like to say a huge big thank you to every member for giving up your free time to sing.
I am sure you will all agree that the KS2 carol service on Thursday night was a wonderful evening to remember. The children led the service with readings and songs and certainly entertained us with their rendition of ‘Sparkle and Shine’ all wearing sunglasses!
Today, was Christmas Jumper day raising money for Save the Children, and every child wore their jumper with pride and I am always amazed how many different creations there are.
Mid-morning, visitors from the village community and parents returned to school for a coffee and mince pie and entertainment from all our children, even a sneaky preview performance from our youngest members of the school.
Well done to all our children, you have all been amazing and keep it going for another week.

Fri 15 Nov 2019Another busy and fun day at Polebrook raising money for Children in Need.
Everyone had made an effort in dressing up with something spotty and even a few Pudsey's were spotted around the school!
Purple class organised games at break times and sold Pudsey merchandise.
At lunch break the children had a Pudsey party followed by a Pudsey duck race at the end of the day.
We raised and incredible £252.23.
Thank you to everyone for you generous donation and it was lovely to hear of children donating their own pocket money.

Thu 14 Nov 2019Yesterday, ten of our Year 1 and 2 children gave up their time after school to represent Polebrook in the Sports Hall athletics competition held at Prince William School. This is an event held for all the cluster schools.
Our children tried so hard and gave it their best in each event and overall the team finished in a fantastic 2nd place.
Congratulations to all the children for your outstanding behaviour and being great ambassadors for Polebrook Primary School.
The school were also given the Sports Games Gold plaque for 2018/2019 for continuing to offer a broad sporting curriculum.
A big thank you goes to our Sports Crew who gave up their break times to help coach our team and also to our parents for transporting and supporting the children.

Blue class are Romans for the day
Tue 05 Nov 2019What a great day for Blue Class and all the children and Mrs Bryant got into character and dressed for the occasion.
In morning the children built Roman aqueducts and tested with water! Then they created edible Roman roads.
In the afternoon the class created mosaics and then all became archaeologists and studied the Roman artefacts boxes Mrs Bryant collected from Oundle museum.
I am sure they will all had plenty to talk about later and hopefully full of knowledge of life as a Roman.

Thorpe Hall Hospice Donations
Fri 25 Oct 2019Today Miss McBlain, Mrs Orlebar and two Year 6 children visit the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough to present our donations.
All families and staff donated money for the hospice as part of our Harvest Festival. Children created 'happy envelopes' which were sent home and in total we raised over £340! For such a small school it was an incredible amount to raise.
The staff at the hospice were overwhelmed with our donation and visit. It was incredibly emotional to see just how important our donations are and to see how grateful they were. The happy envelopes certainly fulfilled their job and put smiles on both staff and residents.
Thank you so much to all families and staff for the donations, the money went to an amazing cause within our community.

KS2 Athletics Success
Fri 11 Oct 2019Polebrook and Glapthorn attended an RLT athletics event at Corby Athletics Track with 5 other RLT schools where all children in Key Stage 2 were able to spend the day taking part in all kinds of athletic activities.
Each child was able to have a go at all activities which included running, long jump, obstacle courses and throwing.
It was lovely to see Glapthorn and Polebrook cheering each other and being incredibly supportive of one another as well as cheering the other RLT schools.
I am proud to say the children of Polebrook did very well in each event winning lots of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places! Congratulations to these children and all of our children who tried so very hard and gave it their best in each event.
Some of the children said yesterday was one of the best days of their lives and it was evident through the participation and fun the children had all day. It was a great opportunity to bond with our trust schools and we look forward to the next one!

Our amazing athletes at Polebrook
Fri 27 Sep 2019This week our Blue and Purple Class took part in the Thrapston Tri-Kids Festival at the Nene Centre.
It was a rigorous event where each child had to complete a triathlon including swimming, cycling and running.
The children were fantastic ambassadors of Polebrook and the Tri-Kids team were incredibly supportive and cheered all of the children on throughout the event. It was lovely to see parents who had come along to take part in the cheering too!
