Spring 1

Young Voices day finally came!

Not many children can say they have played Birmingham arena but on Thursday 11th January Stevie Wonder class were part of a mass choir of 6122 other children! We have been practicing a huge variety of songs and dances since September and on Thursday we got to perform them to a packed arena. One of the highlights was seeing the amazing Nandi Bushell perform on her drums and MC Grammar. The children were fantastic and they gave it their all, singing, dancing and screaming the night away! They represented Polebrook brilliantly and we are all incredibly proud of them. It truly is an amazing experience and one we look forward to doing again very soon!

How have the Ancient Greeks influenced modern life?

The children learnt about the differences between Athens and Sparta. They learnt about the Olympics and how things have changed today - we have no naked running events!

The children found out about democracy and deciphered some real life Greek writing to discover who they had decided to ostracise. They also made some wonderful Greek vase designs based on myths and legends.

In reading, we read Who let the Gods out! The children found out about star signs and created their own cardias.

In RE, we have been learning about Hinduism and were lucky enough to visit a Mandir. The children were fascinated to learn about the diffrerent Hindu Gods. They were very respectful and joined in with some singing and prayers as well as asking lots of very thoughtful questions.

The children also designed their own game of life based on the Hindu belief in karma.
