WORLD BOOK DAY!
The children all looked amazing in their costumes - well done everyone!!
The children started their day by drawing themselves in their WBD costumes and explaining why they chose to be that character. We then started the voting our World Book Day World Cup of Books! We started with 16 books and slowly whittled it down to 1! Our winner is..........Rainbow Fish! The children then worked in teams using their inference skills to find a list of things in different books! The team work continued with a traditional tales quiz, the children were given clues to the tales and they had to record their answers as a team. After break and lunch time, as a whole school we participated in buddy reading with children from different classes - this was lovely to see the children engaging in reading together! We started our afternoon having a with a TEAMS call with Year 1/2 class at Glapthorn to find out all of the exciting things they have been getting up to for WBD. We then finished our day, making bookmarks (which will return home next week!) We then went for a whole school assembly to share the fun that had been had throughout the day!

Kid Lit - Year 1
The children had a fabulous time at the Great Hall in Oundle as part of Oundle Literature Festival - we visited the author Leigh Hodgkinson.
The children listened to Leigh's book 'The Book Hospital' and then she demonstrated how she designs her book covers. The children then had the opportunity to create their very own book cover!

Hamerton Zoo
To support our topic of "Why can't meerkats live in the North Pole?" we visited Hamerton Zoo! The children started the day with a very exciting start by going on a Double Decker bus!! The children then had time to look at the different animals at the zoo, they really enjoyed looking at the information boards outside of the enclosures to learn more about which continent the animals were from!
When we returned from our Hamerton Zoo visit, the children have written their own blog recount of their visits!
Here are some examples from Year 1 and 2:
