Sharing a story with another Class

Purple Class have enjoyed sharing their amazing Reading Corner with other classes in school. Children that have earned points during our Book Talk sessions have been rewarded with being able to choose a story to read to other children. Children from other classes have then been invited into our reading corner to listen and enjoy!

Tutankhamun Exhibition London Trip

Yesterday, Purple Class were transported back to ancient times as we explored the findings of Tutankhamun’s infamous tomb at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

The trip include a workshop where the children made replicas of artefacts that were found inside Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus and a self-guided tour around the exhibit.

The entire exhibit was over two floors and full of video footage from the historical discovery by Howard Carter as well as maps and descriptions for everything that was found. We were all mesmerised and overwhelmed at the treasures and some couldn’t believe the artefacts were real! All children were true ambassadors of Polebrook, their behaviour was outstanding and we were so proud to watch them going round the exhibit looking amazed.

Thank you so much for parents and FOPs for this incredible opportunity that will be with the children (and adults) forever!

Ancient Egypt Day

The Ancient Egyptians have arrived!

Purple Class are celebrating their topic with an Ancient Egyptian themed Day.

This morning they are have started off with a ‘mummy’ dance and have designed cartouches which have their names written in hieroglyphs and they have created some papyrus!

Next they will be creating Egyptian jewellery, having a ‘best wrapped mummy’ competition, making some Ancient Egyptian sweets and ending the day with a Pharaoh Feast!

Ancient Egypt's Got Talent!

Purple Class have been learning about Ancient Egypt this term and to put our knowledge to the test we put on a competition to find out who the best Ancient Egyptian god was! Blue Class were a terrific audience as they judged competitors who had wrote a speech explaining why they deserved to win and even showed off their party tricks!

Important Historical Events

Before learning about our main topic this term, Ancient Egypt. We needed to identify key events and periods throughout history and discuss each one to increase our historical knowledge! At first the children needed to use their knowledge to put the events in order without any dates - this was quite tricky as some of us hadn't heard of all of the periods!

Then we were given the dates and were able to also use our mathematical knowledge to put the dates in chronological order. We then needed to find out about more about these periods and events for our homework.
