Celebrating our community

2022-2023

Visits to our local Care Home

During the summer term, some year 3 and 4 children have been visiting our local care home to spend some time with the residents. They have taken games to play and have enjoyed talking about their learning. They have shared some songs and a bit of ukulele playing which have definitely been the favourites! The children have been great Respectasauruses showing such care and kindness and it has been a wonderful experience for all involved.

Kids of Steel Triathlon Corby

On Tuesday 20th June Year 3 and 4 took part in the Kids of Steel triathlon at Corby pool. The children had to swim, cycle and run as part of the event and were fantastic! Everyone took part and tried their very best as well as supporting and encouraging each other. They had a great time and absolutely deserved their medal and goodie bag at the end!

NMPAT's The Festival

Some of our KS2 children took part in the NMPAT Festival at The Derngate Theatre in Northampton this week. This was an opportunity for schools to share their talents in the arts. Our dance teacher, Emma, had choreographed a dance with help from the children, which was all about being “The Greatest Version of Yourself”. The children were incredible. There were so many tricky lifts and moves but the children represented Polebrook in such an amazing way. The dance was so emotional to watch and the children ended with such a powerful quote "we are unstoppable and we are free to do anything".

Athlete Visit

What an exciting morning we had yesterday! Incredible Athlete and Swimmer, Joe Roebuck, visited our school and started the session off with some really fun whole school exercises and he encouraged the children to support each other and build up confidence. He then shared his life story and showed how perserverance and determination helps us to succeed. The children were very excited to see Joe's medals and his swimming races too! We ended the morning with sing Happy Birthday to Joe and giving him three cheers! The children definitely feel inspired to follow and achieve their dreams!

May Day 2023

Polebrook celebrated our traditional May Day with KS1 performing their country dances and KS2 dancing around the May Pole. Our May Queen was crowned and the whole school came together at the end of the ceremony with our stunning Maze dance. Thank you so much for parents and FOPS for organising refreshments, donating flowers, decorating our stunning May Pole and creating garlands and bouquets for our procession children. All flowers were then placed on Polebrook’s war memorial at the end of the ceremony as a mark of respect.

Oundle Festival of Music and Drama - 1st Place!

In March this year our choir took part in the Oundle festival of music and drama. We entered the year 6 and under small choir category where the children had to perform 2 contrasting songs. They sang beautifully, so beautifully that they came first with a distinction!

Celebrating the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla

As part of the celebrations, the whole school and parents came together and decorated crowns and created a banner for Polebrook Village to support our local communities celebrations too! The children also shared a May Pole dance with the village.

Then, in the afternoon, we ended the festivities with a tea party. We joined together in singing God Save the King and some of our Year 6 children created their own Coronation Rap!

World Book Week!

This year, our theme was “Go Wild for Reading!” which is directly aimed at promoting a love of reading all year round.
For World Book Day, our theme included a festival of reading! Our hall was decorated with different activities held across the room including an audio book corner, creative writing corner, book review tables and of course, our main stage ready for children to act out some performance poetry!

Our wonderful FOPS team also provided face paints and our Year 5/6 team were the 'staff' at the festival, offering support to all who needed it!

We also wanted our children to share the pleasure of reading and telling their favourite stories whilst including parents. Therefore, we also had lots of events happening throughout the week including attending the KidLit Festival in Oundle where children got to meet authors, listen to them share stories about their books and life and also received a signed copy of their book! We also hosted "Listen to a story" at the end of each day where parents were also invited to listen to a story chosen by our children.

Celebrating Easter!

For Easter this year, Polebrook came together for our Collective Worship at our village church where each class shared their Easter project they had been working on.

Our EYFS children created Easter gardens.

Our Year 1 & 2 Children performed a song describing the celebration of Easter and new life.

Our Year 3 & 4 Children collaborated on some amazing art work representing The Holy Spirit.

Our Year 5 & 6 Children created some Easter jewellery and thought about symbols and colours important to Christians at this time of year other than the Cross.

Here at Polebrook, we just love getting into the festive Spirit at Christmas time!

As a school we have made decorations for our tree, practiced for the EYFS/KS1 Nativity and the KS2 Carol Service, had a visit from Father Christmas and had a Christmas party! We also took part in Christmas Jumper day and made cards and decorations during craft week.

Check out the Children's Class pages to see more photos.

Here are just a couple of our stunning videos of musical performances.

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

Collective Worship Group's Assemblies

Our fabulous worship group lead our collective worship once a term, this time with a focus on the creation story and organised the assembly themselves! They chose the Bible story, the song, the prayer and created a PPT and actions to go with the story!

They were incredible at getting all the children (and staff) to join in, making it an interactive and engaging worship.
Well done to you all - it was so great!

Carol Service at our Local Care Home

MLK class went out into the community to spread a little Christmas joy and sang at the care home this week. They sang absolutely beautifully and were fantastic Polebrook ambassadors. I know the residents really enjoyed it, well done.

Remembrance Day
The children took part in a Remembrance craft day this year, creating beautiful poppies from recycled bottles (thank you for the donations!) and other craft activities. There was a wonderful display outside school. On Remembrance Day, the children went down to the Cenotaph in Polebrook Village and took part in a one minute silence to remember those that fought in wars of the past and those that are fighting in wars around the world today. We then read some prayers which MLK had written from our School Prayer book.

Children in Need

Thank you so much for your donations to Children In Need today. We have raised over £250, which is very impressive for a small school! The children have had a wonderful day in non-uniform, taking part in a range of exciting activities led by Miss McBlain and MLK Class! Thanks to FOPS for painting Pudsey spots!

Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
As a school, have been commemorating the Queen and have written some beautiful, heart-warming messages, prayers and thanks which you can read on our Queen Elizabeth memory board. Each child also wrote in Polebrook Church’s Book of Condolence and some of the children went down to the church with Mrs Martin to add our pages to the book.
