• Valentine baking

  Before half term our EYFS and KS1 enjoyed some ‘Valentine baking’

   

  The children all had a lovely time making, rolling, cutting out and decorating sugar cookies.

   

  A lovely Valentine treat for whoever received them!

  

• MLK study mechanics

  Before half term Year 5 and 6 studied a D&T unit based on mechanisms, specifically Cams.

   

  This built on previous knowledge of levers and linkages learnt in lower Key Stage 2.

   

  We followed the D&T process of researching existing toys with mechanisms, understanding the technical skill involved in using cams and using a design brief to create a design of a toy using cams. Finally, we made and modified our product to ensure it met our design brief and worked.

   

  The children were very resilient when faced with challenges during the making stage.

  

• SW class become Ancient Greeks

  Our Stevie Wonder class have got a very exciting day ahead.

   

  To support their history topic they have all come to school dressed as Ancient Greeks.

   

  They are currently making clay pots

   

  Later they are making shields and masks and even having a Greek Feast

• A special visit to the The Houses of Parliament

  Last week, three children from MLK class joined other children from The Rutland Learning Trust to have a special visit to The Houses of Parliament.

   

  They got the opportunity to do a workshop explaining how laws are made and the four stages of law making.

   

  To quote one of the pupils '' we had a great time and saw debates happening in the Commons and House of Lords, though the debates were not that exciting it was super cool to see!''

   

  It was an amazing experience.

  

• Robotics, teamwork, presenting and creativity at the Lego League regional competition

  Wed 04 Feb 2026

  After four months of hard work at the weekly after school Lego club, Polebrook once again attended the regionals of the First Lego League Unearthed competition.

   

  At the regionals, which was held at Caterpillar Perkins in Peterborough, the children participated in various challenges to earn points throughout the day.

   

  The challenges involved robotics, teamwork, presenting and creativity.

   

  One of the huge benefits of the Lego League is to allow children an enrichment opportunity using the STEM skills of science, engineering, maths and technology.

   

  The children did incredibly well presenting their findings from the project to a team of judges and came away from the day with two trophies.

   

  A fantastic result for the year 5 and 6 pupils!
