  • Gymnastics with your buddy!

    Thu 19 Dec 2024

Our Year 5/6s have been working on our balance skills in PE and were very excited to get out all of the gym equipment in the hall, especially when we modelled how to use it with EYFS!

We worked with our buddies to create different point balances and positions.

Our Year 5/6s were so incredibly supportive and all have a fantastic gymnastics session!

  • Year 1 and 2 to Peterborough Cathedral

    Thu 19 Dec 2024

On Tuesday David Attenborough class finished their Geography and RE unit with a trip to Peterborough Cathedral.

    We had an amazing day!

We started by visiting different characters from the Nativity story, including, the shepherds on a hill side, the very Wise King looking for stars and even Mary's kind neighbour who was helping to clean up all of the feathers after her visit from Angel Gabriel! These characters were spread all around the Cathedral, so we got a good chance to have an explore and look at the magnificent building.

After our lunch we created a stained-glass window inspired by the Cathedral's huge windows and the Nativity story. Before heading back to the coach, we had a walk-through Peterborough city centre.

We have been comparing cities, towns and villages in Geography and this was the perfect opportunity to have a look at a city.

The children were brilliant and got a round of applause from the cathedral team for being so super!

  • Year 5 and 6 Choir to Oakham

    Thu 19 Dec 2024

Last Friday some of our year 5 and 6 children went to Oakham cathedral to be part of the choir with all the other RLT schools.

Our children did us proud and it was a truly beautiful service that left us all feeling very Christmassy!

Also some of our Year 6 children led our whole school collective worship all about Martin Luther King.

They planned everything themselves and included a song and prayers as well as a quiz to make sure we were all listening!

They did a fantastic job! Well done all involved

  • Polebrook achieve GOLD

    Tue 10 Dec 2024

We have fantastic news to share!

Polebrook CE Primary School have been awarded a GOLD award by the Artsmark

This is a super achievement and we would like to thank everyone involved especially Mrs McIntosh and FOPS friends of polebrook school

Please see below a section from our report

Polebrook Primary School has used Artsmark thoughtfully and strategically to further embed its existing commitment to the arts as an important stimulus for good quality teaching and learning.

Your values and ethos speak to the idea of creativity being a driver for children, helping them to engage in learning and also stay enthused about being at school. This sense of children as active learners fits very well with the arts and you have reflected on this and used it to good effect.

Highlights have included having a professional gardener co-create a new reflective space with children, parents and the wider community. Children now actively manage this space, as well as use it as a learning resource.

Also, building the capacity of your very receptive staff who have embraced new challenges and positively defined them as development opportunities. This has led to you establishing a revised art curriculum and regular designated staff meetings for arts ensuring collective responsibility for the provision and opportunities for CPD. You also have trained ArtsAward advisors in school too.

You have used Artsmark as a route to more collaboration with the wider community and that has strengthened your partnerships and boosted chances to perform at community festivals and celebrations.

It is clear that a good level of arts activity within and beyond the curriculum are well established at your school.

Strengths include Cultural Collaborations and CPD. You have used partnerships and connections beyond the school to widen your circle of engaged participants, so that the arts have become a means of learning well for children, but also a bridge to involve artists, parents and the wider community.

  • SW class to France for the day!

    Mon 09 Dec 2024

This term, SW class have been learning about how France and the UK are different. We were invited by Paddington to visit him in Paris on a special plane that left from Polebook Hall.

The children had to create passports and pack their bags in the hope that passport control officers would let them in. We did have a few that had to pay extra for bringing bags that were far to large!

Once we arrived, we worked together in teams to build the Eiffel Tower. We then explored the Louvre and created our own Mona Lisa artwork. The day finished with a scavenger hunt before flying home. Luckily, we all made it back safely.

    It was a fantastic day!
