The 'egg challenge'!
Tue 24 Mar 2026The Science Ambassadors invited everyone to take part in the 'egg challenge'
The Egg Drop Challenge is a classic STEM activity where participants build a contraption to protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a height.
The goal is to apply physics concepts—like increasing impact time, reducing velocity via air resistance, and cushioning—to withstand gravity!
So last Friday, the whole school watched the amazing designs being dropped from a height. Some made it and some didn't!
Great fun was had by all.

World Book Day 2026
Fri 06 Mar 2026Today we celebrate World Book Day ‘Read your Way’, with this year’s theme ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ by Enid Blyton.
All our children (and staff) have pulled out all the stops with their costumes, we even have a tree!
The classrooms have been transformed into ‘lands’ the children experienced in the Magic Faraway Tree. The lands include: Dream land, Space land, Pirate land and Art land.
The children have a great and busy day ahead and already have done the annual ‘cat walk’ to show off their costumes.
Following MLK, FK and DA class, SW class have gone to Kidlit today.
At the end of the day, parents are invited into school to share a story with their child

MLK study mechanics
Tue 24 Feb 2026Before half term Year 5 and 6 studied a D&T unit based on mechanisms, specifically Cams.
This built on previous knowledge of levers and linkages learnt in lower Key Stage 2.
We followed the D&T process of researching existing toys with mechanisms, understanding the technical skill involved in using cams and using a design brief to create a design of a toy using cams. Finally, we made and modified our product to ensure it met our design brief and worked.
The children were very resilient when faced with challenges during the making stage.

They got the opportunity to do a workshop explaining how laws are made and the four stages of law making.
To quote one of the pupils '' we had a great time and saw debates happening in the Commons and House of Lords, though the debates were not that exciting it was super cool to see!''
It was an amazing experience.

Robotics, teamwork, presenting and creativity at the Lego League regional competition
Wed 04 Feb 2026After four months of hard work at the weekly after school Lego club, Polebrook once again attended the regionals of the First Lego League Unearthed competition.
At the regionals, which was held at Caterpillar Perkins in Peterborough, the children participated in various challenges to earn points throughout the day.
The challenges involved robotics, teamwork, presenting and creativity.
One of the huge benefits of the Lego League is to allow children an enrichment opportunity using the STEM skills of science, engineering, maths and technology.
The children did incredibly well presenting their findings from the project to a team of judges and came away from the day with two trophies.
A fantastic result for the year 5 and 6 pupils!
