Year 5/6 Lego Competition! We are through to Nationals!
Wed 19 Jan 2022The week before the Christmas break, Lego Club took part in their competition against 10 other schools in our county. They needed to program a robot using specific coding, create an innovation project and present it to a panel of judges and design a logo which was added to a t-shirt. Our team did amazingly well… so well in fact that we came runner’s up of the competition and are through to the England Nationals! We are so proud of the commitment and effort from the children as it is completely child led and they were so brave during the competition! Information regarding Nationals will be available in the new year.

Purple Class Science Visit
Sun 04 Jul 2021Purple Class were invited to take part in Oundle School Science Week and spent the morning in a blow-up planetarium and making rocket cars!
The planetarium was brought to the school by colleagues from Imperial College London and inside the dome, a projection of space filled all of the walls and ceiling and it felt as if we were travelling through space! We got to see all of the planets in our solar system as well as star constellations and galaxies.
Next we were taken to one of the science labs where engineers from the Bloodhound project at University Swansea told us about their project to try and beat the land speed record. The children then needed to become engineers themselves and build their very own rocket cars! Once they were built, the children went out into the car park where their cars had a rocket attached to them and were then ignited to see how fast the cars could go – one of ours set a speed of over 43mph!
It was a fantastic opportunity and the children of Purple Class thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it has inspired some of our pupils to want to become scientists and engineers when they are older!

Remembrance
Tue 17 Nov 2020To commemorate Remembrance Day this year, Polebrook took part in a range of activities and came together in our playground for the 1 minute silence
Across school, our topic this term is World War 2 so each class completed activities to remember those who fought for us and enabled us to live our lives freely.
Key Stage 1 made some poppy wreaths and put them in our quiet area.
Key stage 2 studied the local area and war memorial and made poppies for our World War 2 display.
Thank you to those that donated money to the Poppy appeal and bought wristbands and poppies.

Children in Need 2020
Tue 17 Nov 2020Polebrook raised over £324 this year for Children in Need, a staggering amount! We are so proud of the generosity from our pupils and families. Thank you so much!
The children (and staff!) came to school dressed in 'Spotacular' outfits and were able to purchase Children in Need merchandise.
Our Year 5/6 class created some thoughtful prayers and posters for Children in Need whilst the other classes took part in mental well-being lessons.
We all ended the day with the annual Children in Need Duck race with Quackman and Bobbin winning the race!
Thanks again for all your donations and support for this great cause.

Hot Chocolate with the Head!
Mon 02 Nov 2020Our Hot chocolate with the Head was off to a flying start this half term with lots of children enjoying a warm beverage with Mrs Coulthard!
If a child has read every day at home over 4 weeks, they are rewarded with a lovely cup of hot chocolate and the opportunity to spend quality time with our Head Teacher, sharing their love of reading and discussing books they have read.
We have implemented this session in order to promote a love of reading both at school and at home and we are so impressed with how hard the children (and parents!) have tried to read every single day.
Well done everyone!
I wonder who will be chosen next time? -
Harvest Festival
Thu 22 Oct 2020With social distancing in place, each class were able to come together outside for a lovely Harvest Festival.
We managed to have a small window of sunshine in order to join together for a Harvest story from Mrs Coulthard, sing some of our favourite Harvest songs and listen to readings and prayers from our Year 5s and 6s.
It was a wonderful opportunity to share this special time with each other and celebrate our Harvest Festival!
Thank you so much for all the generous donations our parents and families have brought into school - these will all be donated to the Oundle Food Bank this week!
