Summer 1

This term our big question is "what do humans need to be healthy?"

We started our topic by looking at the different nutrients and the jobs they do in our body. We looked at what foods contained these nutrients and why a balanced diet is important.

In DT the children used their science knowledge and designed the perfect sandwich! They invited their parents in to help us make them and then set up SW classes super sandwich stall at our VE day tea party celebrations. The rest of the school tasted our sandwiches and gave us feedback on how they looked and tasted.

We then looked at our skeleton and drew round each other to see if we could fill in where we thought our bones were and any names we knew. It was very interesting!

We then learnt why we have a skeleton and the fact that some other animals skeletons are very different from ours.

We also looked at how our muscles work and whether the size of our legs affects how far we can jump!

RLT maths day

This year our maths day was all about money. We looked at all the different coins and talked about how we pay for things and where money comes from. We loved looking at the Royal Mint to find out how money is made.

The children then looked at budgetting and why its important. They planned our cinema night food shop for our residential next month and had to discuss in groups the best way to spend their money. They looked at special offers and how own branded items were cheaper. Each group then presented their budget to the rest of the class and the winning one was chosen for Mrs Bryant to go shopping!
