A busy last day of this half term.....................
Thu 17 Oct 2024We had a wonderful Harvest Celebration Service at Polebrook Church this morning. Each class shared a performance which included singing songs, playing ukuleles and rapping!
Thank you so much for all your donations which will go to Oundle Food Bank.
FK class had a 'When I grow up' day and all dressed up for the rest of the day.
We had a vet, astronaut, mechanic, policeman, monster truck driver, gamer, pilot with the aeroplane! and naturally a princess!
For our fabulous finish of our Evolution topic, MLK have been investigating Darwin’s finches.
We looked at how different beaks have adapted in order to eat different seeds depending on the Galapagos Island the finches were found on.
This was a clear way of recognising Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection.

We are so very proud of you both!

Pupil visit to Parliament
Tue 24 Sep 2024Recently three of our Year 6 children were chosen to represent our school as young governors on the annual RLT Trip to Parliament.
They were lucky enough to go to the Houses of Commons and watched a real-life debate with MPs!
In the afternoon, they went to a huge room where Henry VIII used to play tennis, as historians had found a mouldy tennis ball high in the roof (what an amazing fact!).
The children said the tour was really impressive and they felt very important walking round.
They hope to return one day especially if they can write their own laws! -
MLK nature walk
Mon 23 Sep 2024MLK were inspired by the methods of Charles Darwin and embarked on a nature walk last week, observing the living things around them – just like Darwin did at his home in Kent, hundreds of years ago.
The children then carefully sketched all they could see in fine detail in their art books ready to continue learning all about the theory of Evolution.

Science Ambassador Day
Fri 20 Sep 2024Two of our Year 6 children were chosen as Science Ambassadors for Polebrook School and attended a challenge day at Kings Cliffe Primary School.
Here the children could earn tokens for showing collaboration, respect and creativity – all key values in Science. I am so pleased to say that Polebrook earned over 20 tokens throughout the day! We also successfully made a cat flap with working alarm, completed an experiment to show opposite forces and worked together to organise a timeline of important scientific events.
Our children earned their Science Ambassador badges and received them in Celebration Assembly.
We cannot wait for you to inspire others and promote Science across our school!

MLK day out in Cambridge
Fri 20 Sep 2024MLK had such a jam-packed day last week looking around two museums!
They started with the museum of Zoology which brought their evolution learning to life where they saw real specimens from Darwin’s journey on the HMS Beagle and so much more!
They then made their way to the Fitzwilliam where they looked at artefacts from Ancient Egypt including a real mummy!
Overall, Polebrook were incredible ambassadors and we are so proud of all the children.
They had such a wonderful time and can’t wait for our next adventure!

A Monday morning treat for David Attenborough class
Tue 17 Sep 2024David Attenborough class had a fantastic visit from 'Raptorxotics'!
He brought with him a variety of strange and exotic animals which included an African Owl, a Blue Tongue Skink, a Blue Beauty Snake, a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach, a huge Toad and a blind Hedgehog!
The children were wonderful with all of the animals and showed great bravery when giving the snake a stroke!
They were fascinated by the facts that they were told and were able to recall lots of these afterwards.
Mr Sharpe was very impressed with our knowledge of animal groups and thought we lived up to our class's name- Well done DA!

The Great Fire of London in DA Class
Thu 11 Jul 2024This week in David Attenborough class we finished our fabulous learning on 'The Great Fire of London'!
We have all loved this history inspired topic and have found out so much about this famous period. The children (and parents) created the most fantastic houses inspired by the 1666 timber-framed homes as part of a homework project and on Tuesday Angus helped to pack those houses tightly together to create Pudding Lane. It was really exciting and whilst the houses were burning the children sang ‘London’s Burning’. We watched as the flames started at Thomas Farriner's Bakery, before spreading along the street... Luckily Samuel Pepys' house survived (along with his cheese and wine!). What a brilliant day we had!
