  • Success in the recent national maths challenge

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

Purple Class took part in a national maths challenge as part of the RLT. It was incredibly challenging therefore all children received a certificate for completing it. The children needed to answer a range of questions and the mark was out of 20.

If the children got more than the average score, they received a bronze, silver or gold certificate (with gold being tricky to get!)

In Purple Class, we earned 1 bronze, 5 silver and 3 gold certificates! What an achievement!

We are so proud of our children and their success!

  • Vision Evening at Polebrook CE Primary on Thursday, April 23rd at 6.30pm- all invited

    Mon 16 Mar 2020

I am writing to inform you about the progress of Polebrook CE Primary School in its collaboration with Glapthorn CE Primary School and the Rutland Learning Trust (RLT). As you are aware, we have shared an Executive Headship for the past 14 months and have had access to significant support from RLT.

The governors and leaders of Polebrook School are delighted with the improvements this has stimulated and hope to further this partnership by formally joining the Rutland Learning Trust and converting to an Academy. You may also be aware that Glapthorn School has recently completed the conversion process and has become an academy.
We received the consent of the Department for Education for our conversion to academy and they issued an Academy Order for Polebrook School last week. This means that we are now able to begin the conversion process.

We would like to invite you to a Vision Evening at Polebrook CE Primary on Thursday, April 23rd at 6.30pm, to hear more about our plans for the school. The executive headteacher will share our revised school vision, values and aims, which build on the strengths of Polebrook School and align us with those of RLT. Rob Gooding, CEO of RLT, will present on the vision, values and aims of RLT. There will also be opportunities to talk informally to the speakers.

We have secured the agreement of Northamptonshire County Council and of the Peterborough Diocese Board of Education, both of who currently oversee the school, for our conversion to an academy and will be undertaking a formal consultation with the community, especially parents and carers. The consultation opens with this letter and closes on Thursday, 30th April 2020. We invite you to submit any questions, comments or concerns you may have about our conversion to academy to the school by email or letter. The email addresses of the Chair of Governors and the Executive Headteacher are given at the end of this letter, alternatively responses can be sent to us at the school office. Responses submitted before 23rd April will be addressed during the presentations to the Vision Evening.

The Vision Evening on 23rd April also forms part of our consultation with you, so please do come along to find out more about these exciting developments for our fantastic school.

  • Sports Relief

    Fri 13 Mar 2020

Sports Crew held a “Come in your Kit” day where children and adults could wear sports clothes if they donated £1 to Sports Relief.

We had a great range of outfits, showing our children’s many interests outside of school including dancing, horse riding, football, rugby, running and biking.

They also racked their brains and raided the PE shed to organise different physical activities for break and lunchtime.

  • Success at Oundle Festival of Literature

    Mon 09 Mar 2020

A huge congratulations to one of our Year 5 students who won first prize in the Year 5  & 6 poetry competition at Oundle Festival of Literature.

The finalists in the writing competition came from eight local schools and they were invited to an event on Saturday 7th March, with author M.M. Vaughan entitled Tips for Young Writers. This was a very informative event enjoyed by all and then the eager finalists were presented with certificates, book tokens for the 1st and 2nd places and Easter Eggs for everyone, kindly donated by Waitrose.

Well done, we are all so proud of you!

    Here is her winning entry:

    Us Humans

In the future I can see,
A crumbling building that belonged to me,
My house is now a pile of rubble,
All because the robots were causing trouble.

Water is scarce, food is in ration,
Everybody’s emotions have a lot less passion,
    My troubled mind is bending,
I think the world is ending.

    I rethink this thought,
The villains that have done this must be caught,
I’m being driven round the bend, I think about this more and more,
Then I realized who caused this horror

    It was us humans!

    We humans are selfish,
Just think of all the fish,
We have dragged from the sea,
But if my friend was asked to help save our earth, she’d say: No, no not me!
